Greece is the word...

Day 3 & 4 : Corfu & Santorini

The rain arrived in Corfu at the same time as we did, but it was intermittently warm and sunny so it didn't really deter us much.  We spent the day wandering around as usual, popping in and out of shops and cafes as the whim took us.
Somehow though, neither of us took any pics that day.  Strange, but true.

The next day, en route to Santorini, Captain Iv (pronounced Eve*) announced that due to high winds, there was a distinct possibility that by the time we reached the island, the port would be closed.  And this being the case, he would divert the ship to Mykonos.
Yay! We love Santorini, but we love Mykonos just as much so would have been happy whichever the case.

But less than 2 hours later, we were anchored off Santorini. That was the good news.
The bad news however, was that the cable car from the port up to Fira (pronounced Thira*) was closed.  Aaargh!  Having walked up the 600 steps (alongside the boisterous and smelly donkeys) last year, I had ticked that off the list and vowed never to do that again.  But, c'est la vie...

SO, armed with the knowledge that we would HAVE to walk, we duly jumped (literally) into the small tender boat and went ashore.

Despite the wind and the morning haze, it turned into a lovely hot sunny day and we traversed the island (it's really not that big!), exploring the quaint villages of Oia (pronounced Ee-Ah*) and Fira, and everyplace else in between.

And the highlight of the day?
By the time we were ready to head down those long, winding and smelly-donkey-ridden steps and back to the ship, the wind had abated and the cable car re-opened.
Again, YAY!

* as such to confuse foreigners
