Love it or hate it?

My friend Sue sent me this recipe and as we fall into the "love it" camp of Marmite aficionados, I baked it at the weekend.
It was SOooo yummily delicious that I feel it deserves a post all of its own.

So, if you LOVE it - make it.
Bon appetit...

CHEESE & MARMITE CAKE
... a very unusual but delicious sweet and savoury combination.

Batter:
90g butter or margarine
200ml sugar
1tsp vanilla essence
2 extra large eggs
2 cups cake/plain flour
2 tsps baking powder
1/2 (half) cup milk

Topping:
2 tsps Marmite
50ml butter
1/2 (half) cup cheddar cheese, grated

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a 31 x 30cm ovenproof dish.

Batter:  Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add the vanilla essence.  Whisk the eggs and beat into the creamed mixture.  Stir together the dry ingredients and add to the mixture, alternating with the milk.  Mix well and turn the batter into the prepared dish.  Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.

Topping:  Mix the Marmite and butter.  Prick holes in the cake as soon as it comes out the oven and spread the Marmite mixture on top.  Sprinkle with the grated cheese and return to the oven until the cheese has melted.  Serve hot.
