Being mortified....

For the record (and in my defence), I should start by stating that Ben & Jerry are not "jumpy-up" pups and have been taught that they only get attention/cuddles/treats/etc when all four paws are on the ground.
Hence my mortification when last week I took them for a walk with my friend Jayne and her oh-so-gorgeous-and-well-behaved dog, Archie and mere minutes after Jayne had remarked about how gorgeous-and-well-behaved Ben & Jerry were, Jerry took a flying leap towards Jayne and promptly smeared her very muddy paws all over Jayne's cream jacket.
Extreme mortification, profuse apologies and offers to have the jacket dry-cleaned/laundered followed.

Fast forward to today and whilst battling down the lane with two wilful pups in tow (we bought a Halti to try and stop Ben biting her lead... she just bit the Halti in half and then wriggled out and resumed biting the lead! So much for that idea...) I bumped into one of our neighbours who was out for a walk (part of her physiotherapy in recovering from a recent back op,  I should mention this as it adds to my embarrassment).
Stopping to chat, Janet crosses the lane to meet me and at the same time, both pups jump up to greet her, almost knocking her to the ground and (as a sense of deja-vu flashed through my mind) imprinting two sets of muddy paws over her jeans and jacket.
Even more profuse apologies and yet another offer of laundering followed as before.

Mortification complete.

A mere 20 minutes later - paws wiped and fast asleep...

It is distressing when your children ignore all you've tried to teach them and behave badly in front of others, but at least yours don't back-chat too.

Kids vs Pups debate!
